We teach that there are 3 components of You.
U = Big U, now, the adult, in the present. The one who can make things happen.
u = little u, in the past, from baby on up to 5 minutes ago. it may have happened in the past, but the lingering thoughts and feelings can last forever.
UU = Higher U, Knowing, Powerful, Wise, Large-and-In-Charge, guiding and helping U find safe places for u to feel, and heal.
We want YOU to be able to be Peaceful, and loving, and calm, and kind.
(not wimpy, a push-over, or co-dependant… far from it.)
(Emotional intelligence is about using your PERSONAL POWER,
in positive, productive, passionate, pure, clean ways)
If it sounds like it’s kinda magical, that’s ’cause it is!

Positive Mental Health is sometimes about dealing DIRECTLY with our negative emotions, so we can experience deeper/more colorful/more often/more beautiful/more intimate/more peaceful Positives.
Acknowledging them, facing them, Learning from them/(you). Can you imagine getting to a point where you actually ENJOY them… even your sadness, fear, and anger? (I can, I’m not there yet, as I still have big judgments against my Fears… not really enjoying them… yet). (some day)
I love my sadness…
it tells me who I truly am, what I truly care about, and who I truly miss (bad news, as you age, more and more people you know will get sick and die. bye. gone. poof.
my dear, sweet mother passed away just last month. Terrible ugly last 4 years, for a wonderful, powerful, loving, giving, Amazing, amazing woman. nurse, mother, search and rescue, volunteer, museum docent, ‘Military Wife of the Year’ (USAF Europe, 1970), a friend to my/our friends. She did NOT deserve her ending… I hate to say it, but karma did not work well for her, at all.
that’s sad… so sad. (tears)
I had a loving mother for the past 63 years. now I don’t.

I love my anger, too.
the reason I am here… the reason I’m writing to you, right now…
the reason I don’t sleep much… and I’m never done, and I never quit…
is because of my
ANGER!
I am ANGRY about a lot of things.
I am especially ANGRY that I went all the way through college, and STILL had No idea who I was, and how to manage me, emotionally. none, zero. never a mention of emotions or character or self-awareness… after 16 years of school… no.
no bueno.
unacceptable, ineffective, incomprehensible, (actually) dangerous, and kinda mean.
To have us kids spend countless hours, over years and years/Most of our young lives… and have ZERO TRAINING on Me/I/you/we/us.
unacceptable.
I’m angry about that.
So, I’m doing something about it.
(inspired by “The Gift of Anger” by Arin Gandhi)
(yes, anger is a ‘Gift’, if used/focussed/channeled properly)
(please, please help me/us get this ‘out there’ to the kids/teens/adults/masses!)
(people are dying, quite literally, to know what we know about EQ.)
(it’s our responsibility to teach/tell/show/ask/talk to them.)
oh, another thing I’m Angry about is all my Fears!
man, oh man, I have a lot of Fears.
good grief.
too many.
too deep.
too pervasive.
too wimpy.
yeah, I’m supposed to be understanding and learn from my fears..
and I do…
but by cracky, it’s enough, already.
I’ve been aware of, paid attention to, and Watched myself be afraid,
for a looong time, now.
I’m kinda sick of it.
In fact, I’m quite Sick of it!
I am Angry at how Afraid I am/have become.
I am Angry that I didn’t know Me well enough, to NOT pickup all these Fears.
I am Angry that I was never taught, and h…
wait, I was gonna say, ‘I had no one to talk to’, but that’s not really so.
My parents were right there.
They knew I was hurting.
they were totally clueless about what the problem was, or what to do about it, but they at least knew I was hurting.
and they tried to get me some help.
(just for a minute, and it was totally ineffective… in fact, I believe my visits to one specific therapist, Dr. Megabow, USAF, Wiesbaden, W. Germany, did me more harm than good.)
He just waited until I talked.
I didn’t.
I didn’t know how to get started. I didn’t know what to say.
So, I fell/went/disappeared asleep… during the sessions.
He’d just sit there, then wake me when the time was up.
thanks for nothing.
I believe that, with a little prompting, and TLC, and a ‘friendly’ friend/ally/caring person I felt safe to talk to…
that would have saved me years of (self-perpetuated, clueless, ignorant) pain and anguish.
So anyway…

There are 5 steps to PMH:
- Awareness
We can’t manage things we’re not Aware of.
Awareness is always the 1st step! - Acceptance
You can Accept your feelings, or you can fight ’em and deny ’em.
Acceptance is a critical step to U being ok with U (and u, guided by UU) - Action (or no Action)
We decide to Act (or not), based on our thoughts and feelings. Once we become Aware of them, and Accept them, we can take calm, intelligent, conscious, responsive (rather than reactive) Actions… or Not. (NOTE: No action is an action, and is often a very good (non-)action, especially when it comes to big emotions!) Either way, you/U are in charge of you/U/u!
WARNING: you can think and feel anything you want, but when it becomes an Action, that’s where the rubber hits the road, it gets real, and others/the outside world gets involved/consequences happen. - Allies
Make friends. Care about people. Connect, and stay Connected. It’s YOUR responsibility… they may not come to you… you will probably have to go to them… and consciously ‘stick’ with them! People matter… a lot! Keep your important relationships alive and well, clean and close, honest and real… for you, and for them). - Accountability
We are accountable to:
- Ourselves: commit to spending some concentrate time and effort to learn about U/u, to understand U/u, to heal U/u, to accept U/u.
- Our allies: if you want people close in your life (hint: UDo!), you must be somewhat accountable to them, in special ways. They’re worth your efforts.
