     1. Identification - #NameIt2TameIt
     2. Knowledge - Awareness - #SeeIt2BelieveIt

4 Steps to Learning EQ
     1. Unconsciously Incompetent
     2. Consciously Incompetent
     3. Consciously Competent
     4. Unconsciously Competent

There's a process that we all go thru when learning anything new.
     1. Unconsciously Incompetent
We dont know that we dont know.
     		Clueless, unaware, no idea
     2. Consciously Incompetent
We find out that we dont know.
Oh, I see. Makes sense. Can't do it, but I see how it works.
     3. Consciously Competent
We learn how to do it different.
Practice. Do. Think. Feel. Learn! Ask! Try. Experience. Grow. Fly. On Purpose.
     4. Unconsciously Competent
We do it different, without having to think about it (much).
Soar. Sail. Drift. Enjoy! Connect. Be. Do. Have.
     		Smile.

Exercise:

Give each person in the team a piece of paper, and have them write a vision or purpose for that team.
After three minutes, have them take their paper and give it to another person who continues to write the story that the first person started.
After each person has seen each story, have the person at the end read it to the rest of the group.
Let the team vote on the most compelling vision or purpose.
Voila. In 30 minutes, your team now has the clarity to get started.
20 minutes on strengths

Exercise:

An assessment that is a personal favorite of mine is the Gallup StrengthsFinder assessment, which is how I would use the next 20 minutes of the session. After receiving the results, I would place them on the StrengthsFinder team grid and have each team member discuss their strengths and evaluate the larger strengths of the team.

Tip:

Research has shown that teams who work from a strength-based environment produce 10% better results. I couldnt agree more - working on strengths has, by far, been the most valuable work I do with teams.

5 minutes on action items

Exercise:

Rather than focus on weaknesses, I would use this time to come up with one compelling action item that they would like to work on, before meeting again.

5 minutes on next steps

Exercise:

Ask the team to take out their calendars and schedule the next meeting! If it isnt done on the spot, it may very well not happen at all.

So, thats how I would spend one hour coaching a team - how would you spend the hour with your team?

--- Your devotion determines your emotion!

Robert Rohm
Tip of the Week
http://www.personality-insights.com/tip-devotion-determines-emotions/

One of the most difficult aspects of life is to understand is emotions. When I was in high school, my good friend, David Gentry, used to tell me that we could not control our emotions or how we felt about things. Although there is a lot of truth to that when we are growing up, there comes a point at which we must begin to exercise control over our emotions. After all, we cannot simply allow our feelings to determine whether or not we will be hard working, committed adults. If we lean on our emotions, it will not be long before our life begins to fall apart.

A while back, I was in a pizza restaurant. While the girl in front of me was waiting for her pizza to come out of the oven, a song that she evidently knew began to play through the loudspeaker. She immediately got a big grin on her face and said to her friend, Oh, boy! That is my favorite song. Now Im going to have a good day! I could not help but think to myself, Wow, I am glad that my day is not determined by what song I hear on the radio! Dont get me wrong, there are some songs that I enjoy hearing too, but I do not let them control whether or not I am going to have a successful day. That is because my devotion to my faith, family and business are far ahead of my emotions.

Sometimes there needs to be a transfer of our devotion. If we are devoted to the wrong things, our emotions will tag along behind like a dog on a leash. However, if we are devoted to the right things, our emotions will naturally follow as well. I am sure that you have heard the famous quote, Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. This is simply another way of saying that whatever we set our devotion upon will ultimately be the factor that determines our emotion.

Dont get the cart before the horse. The horse should always be in front of the cart. That is the way it was designed to work. If the horse is your treasure (or devotion), then your heart will be the cart (emotions) following along behind it. If we get it backwards and put the cart in front of the horse, we will experience one frustrating situation after another. Emotions are not designed to lead us. They are designed to follow. However, if we get these two in proper order, we will have a better chance of staying balanced in order to succeed in all that we do.

I have found that when I give my full attention and devotion to my family, my business and my faith, my life is much stronger and healthier emotionally. However, that does not happen by accident. It requires some thought and personal determination.

This week, let me encourage you to look carefully at the circumstances currently taking place in your life. Then select one issue upon which you can choose to focus. Ask yourself which is first, your devotion to that issue or your emotions concerning it. Perhaps, if you get those two things straight and in proper order, you will be a much happier person.

It is very easy to let our emotions control us and lead us off in the wrong direction. Find out where your devotion and personal commitment are today and watch your emotions, in time, fall into line.

Tip: Your devotion determines your emotions!

Have a great week! God bless you!

Should you be focused on today or tomorrow? Savor the present but dont forget your future. Life is a balance of knowing when to enjoy the moment vs. when to plant seeds for tomorrows harvest.
Influence / Achievement
Why not? What would happen if? Dont accept that things just are the way they are. Question why something cant be done. And when you get pushback to these questions, reframe the negative answers with possibilities. (TIP: Watch Steve Jobs Vision of the World)
What/Who did you make better today? The way to measure your worth may just be to give more than you take. Asking what/who you made better each day is a simple litmus test we can all measure ourselves by.
What do you want your life to be in 5 years? If you dont know where youre going, youll never get there Lewis Carroll. Write down 5-year goals. Theyre close enough to grasp for, yet far off enough to achieve almost anything.
What can you do today to improve? Consistent, incremental improvement is the secret to achieving the greatest of feats.
Business / Entrepreneurship
Whats your WHY? If you have a big enough WHY youll always figure out the What and the How. If you dont have a BIG WHY, youll always use the What and the How as an excuse for not doing that thing you said you were going to do. (Watch Whats Your Why)
Whats the one most important thing to get done today/ this week/month? Write this down on a Post-it note at the beginning of each day/week, and hold yourself accountable for completing this above all other Stuff To Do.
What questions must you consider before starting a business? See my list by watching The 10 Questions or reading the document.
Whats the potential upside? Whats the effort involved? Whats the likelihood of success? Whats the strategic value? This is the framework I came up with 3 years ago on How to Make the Right Business Decisions. Whenever there is an opportunity cost, I have my team go through this exercise.
What are we talking about? What problem are we solving? I try to start off every meeting by putting this on the whiteboard. In group settings we too often we find ourselves having completely different conversations. Sometimes when answers are difficult to come by, its helpful to question if were solving for the right problem.
Can you get it done now? If something is important or urgent and you can get it done now, do it. (TIP: Read Getting Things Done from the productivity guru David Allen)
What do you need to make it happen? This is one of my favorite questions to ask as a manager. It creates ownership to make sure the goals will be achieved. And it creates a shared responsibility to provide the resources required (time, money, talent, etc.) to achieve those goals.
If we could wave a magic wand and do anything together, what would that look like? I use this question all the time with potential business partners. By removing the perceived constraints that bind us and focusing on mutually desired outcomes, we often discover new pathways of possibility.
How would your role models act and carry themselves? Act as if. Act as if you have the experience, wisdom and swagger of your role model, and youll often find even the most unchartered of situations more navigable.
When can we meet? Were often this one question away from engaging with someone who can open up limitless avenues of possibility. The most important aspect of business is still to always get it done in person. (TIP: Read Business Development Advice)
Will you be my mentor? Its one question that, when asked in earnest, almost nobody will turn down. Reach out to a person in a position and industry you admire, and ask them if you can take them to coffee and hear about how they got there.
What will I only know about you after weve worked together for a year? This interview question comes from the awesome Wendy Lea (CEO, GetSatisfaction). This may be the best interview question Ive ever heard. (Watch Fireside Chat with Wendy Lea and check out my previous 8 Awesome Interview Questions)
What would get you interested in our product/service? Selling is the art of asking good questions, listening, and matching your value to peoples needs. Sales is very easy when others explain what they want and need from you. (Watch The 5 Step Sales Process)

Women in the US get 13 negative thoughts about their body everyday. Girls, as babies, start disliking parts of their body and as young adults, develop serious insecurities about their body that hurt their self-confidence. Purva shares an idea that can potentially fix this problem. In her talk she describes how using Emotional intelligence, understanding a woman's emotions, perceptions, psychology & aspirations about her body, to buying and wearing clothes can help her not only look her best but also feel her best.

Purva has spent more than 10,000 hours speaking to women regarding their feelings about why they buy the clothes they buy. She learnt that loved brands focus on making an emotional connection with their users during her time at the ad agency Saatchi & Saatchi. In her past life, Purva helped UNICEF structure a venture capital fund to scale life changing technology innovations, took a mobile payments and branchless banking startup to millions of users and evaluated innovative early stage startups at the Khosla Impact Fund. Currently, she is the Founder & CEO of Lily where she is on a mission to help women discover clothes that make them look & feel their best using their emotions & perceptions about their body. Purva is an alum of the Yale Entrepreneurial Institute, has an MBA from Indian School of Business with the Young Leader Award for 2013 and Bachelors in Economics from Shri Ram College of Commerce (India). She aspires to use emotional intelligence and artificial intelligence to understand a woman's psychology to predict what products & services will make her happy.

Article #5: Best Times to Post on Social Media: A Complete Guide

Publisher: Sprout Social

Publish date: January 2017

Great comprehensive guide here from Sprout Social. I encourage you to read this full article.I really like what the author, Matt York, says here:

"While its easy to guess or choose a specific time, its more effective to discover time frames rather than exact moments. Banking on an exact time can be a waste of time as every businesss audience varies. But knowing all the possible times in the day can make publishing simpler."

Here are the best days and times for each social network:

1. Facebook

Worst = Daily 4pm-9am (evenings, nights, early mornings)

What to do now??

I know what youre thinking...

Thats sure a lot of contradictory information!!

Yes, it is.

So after reading all of the above and taking it all in and processing it, heres my recommendation:

Forget it!

Then go to your audience analytics for your social pages and see when most of your audience is active/online.

Heres what that looks like for a Facebook page (this is for my climbing page Free Solo):

best-time-to-post-facebook-social-media.png

I can see here that posting from 12am to 4pm is probably better than posting from 4pm to 12am.

So I can start with this in mind. You should get this info for your social profiles.

Then go out and test posting at all different times and days over the next 30 days. See what your data says, then make adjustments toward the times/days when youre getting the most results on your posts.

Then hone it from there.

Eventually youll get to a place where you know your best posting times for the latest time period.

But never stop testing other times and validating your assumptions.Be data-driven. Always!!

Over to You!

How does this sit with you? Did I miss anything?

Do you have insights to share about your best times and how you discovered them?

If so, please chime in below and let me know.I promise -- Ill be driven by your data!! :)

     4. Unconsciously Competent

There's a process that we all go thru when learning anything new.
     1. Unconsciously Incompetent
We dont know that we dont know.
     		Clueless, unaware, no idea
     2. Consciously Incompetent
We find out that we dont know.
Oh, I see. Makes sense. Can't do it, but I see how it works.
     3. Consciously Competent
We learn how to do it different.
Practice. Do. Think. Feel. Learn! Ask! Try. Experience. Grow. Fly. On Purpose.
     4. Unconsciously Competent
We do it different, without having to think about it (much).
Soar. Sail. Drift. Enjoy! Connect. Be. Do. Have.
     		Smile.

Define purpose using these three Cs: Consequential, Challenging and Clear.

Dr. Robert A. Rohm

1. Facebook

Best = Daily 1-4pm (afternoons)
